The Buffalo 2023 Rosé (Pinot Noir) - 12 Pack
The Buffalo 2023 Rosé (Pinot Noir) - 12 Pack
VINEYARD REGION: King Valley
THE WINE: On release the wine has a pale salmon pink colour. The nose comes to life with strawberry, cranberry, and raspberry fruit along with Provencal herbs and floral notes. The palate is complex, showing great varietal energy with racy mineral acidity, combined with fresh summer berry fruits, apricot kernel and herbal notes. Detailed and precise in nature, this is a sophisticated Rosé with outstanding length. A collaborative product of meticulous care and focus in the vineyard and winery.
THE VINTAGE: The lead up to vintage 2023 was challenging to say the least. Experiencing a third La Niña year in a row made the 2022-2023 growing season a record-setting year from a weather perspective. With volatile weather conditions at flowering, crops were down in the King Valley, but fruit quality, and ultimately wine quality, is outstanding.
THE WINEMAKING: The Buffalo 2023 Pinot Noir Rosé was picked on 18th of March at 12.3 baumé. The Saignée (“San-yay”) method was used, where during the first few hours of making a red wine, some of the juice is bled off to make Rosé. The purpose of bleeding off the juice not only produces a lovely rosé but it also concentrates the red wines’ intensity. The wine was racked partially cloudy and warmed to a tank where it was seeded with a Rosé specific yeast isolate. The fermentation was completed in a combination of tank and older French oak barrels. The wine fermented for 18 days at a temperature of between 16 - 18°C. In the last third of the ferment the wine was allowed to warm up to 22°C and stirred daily to impart ferment complexity into the wine. After fermentation, the wine was in tank and barrel for 6 months with regular stirring of the lees.
FOOD MATCHES: Enjoy with Summer Tartelettes of Feta, spinach, cherry tomatoes, mint and parsley with a quinoa crust.
