THE WINE
The wine has an intense bouquet of black cherry, spiced plums, toasty oak, cinnamon and anise peppers. The palate opens up with flavours of blood plum, black and sour cherries, chocolate and liquorice all working together. The palate flows seamlessly from the core of fruit and continues to drive along the palate with excellent length, ably supported by signature Sangiovese tannins

Enjoy this wine with the classic, hearty Tuscan white bean and vegetable soup (Ribollita), served with toasted sourdough.

THE VINTAGE
The lead up to vintage 2023 was challenging to say the least. Experiencing a third La Niña year in a row made the 2022-2023 growing season a record-setting year from a weather perspective. With volatile weather conditions at flowering, crops were down in the King Valley, but fruit quality, and ultimately wine quality, is outstanding.

THE WINEMAKING
Harvested during the cool hours of early morning in late March 2023, the wine was crushed and destemmed to a red fermenter to cold soak for three days. The wine was then allowed to slowly warm up before being inoculated with a specially selected yeast designed to enhance high-quality Sangiovese fruit. The wine was carefully managed to achieve maximum colour, while keeping freshness and flavour intensity and extraction of fine-grained tannins. The wine was fermented for 12 days reaching maximum temperature of 28°C before pressing off skins to tank and undergoing MLF on yeast lees to create volume and mouthfeel. The wine underwent 18 months of careful maturation to build structure, varietal character refinement and added complexity.
