The Buffalo 2023 Pinot Gris - 12 Pack

VINEYARD REGION: King Valley

THE WINE: The Buffalo Pinot Gris has a pale straw hue with glints of gold. Spicy notes intertwine with aromas of ripe peach, honey butter, melon and tangerine. Ripe flavours of citrus, yellow peach and ginger spice add to the wonderful density and texture. Its refreshing acidity extends the palate, while a touch of minerality adds depth and structure to the wine.

THE VINTAGE: The lead up to vintage 2023 was challenging to say the least. Experiencing a third La Niña year in a row made the 2022-2023 growing season a record-setting year from a weather perspective. With volatile weather conditions at flowering, crops were down in the King Valley, but fruit quality, and ultimately wine quality, is outstanding.

THE WINEMAKING: The Buffalo Pinot Gris was picked in late March at 12.2 baumé and at the coolest part of the morning. The juice was pressed and then chilled for cold settling. After cold settling for several days, it was racked and clarified ready for ferment. The juice was then inoculated with a white Rhone specific yeast that highlights the strong Pinot Gris style of wine. The wine was fermented at between 18 - 20°C for about 20 days before going through a partial MLF to provide further richness and body. Post fermentation and partial MLF the wine was stirred regularly to add extra layers and dimension to mouthfeel. The wine was then clarified ready for bottling.
