New Release - The Buffalo 2024 Pinot Gris

Introducing The Buffalo 2024 Pinot Gris: resilience, character, and cool-climate elegance in a glass.

Every vintage tells a story, and 2024 is one for the books. A season of climatic challenges in the King Valley meant our growers and winemakers needed both skill and patience. A wet spring gave way to a warm, sunny vintage, with harvest condensed and wrapped up by Easter. Yields were down around 20%; but what we lost in quantity, we gained in quality. Across whites, reds, and sparkling wines, 2024 is shaping up as an outstanding vintage, with vibrant aromatics, balanced acidity, and flavours that sing.

Our Pinot Gris was harvested in mid-March, hand-picked in the cool of the morning to capture freshness. The fruit was pressed, chilled, and carefully settled before fermentation with a selected Alsatian yeast to bring out the richness and textural side of the Gris style. Fermenting slightly warmer (22–24°C) and completing a partial malolactic fermentation added body, while monthly lees stirring post-ferment layered in complexity and mouthfeel.

The Buffalo 2024 Pinot Gris pours a pale straw hue with golden highlights. On the nose, spicy notes intertwine with ripe white peach, quince, honey butter, and tangelo. The palate is textured and generous, with flavours of grapefruit, stone fruit, and ginger spice. Crisp acidity drives length, while a fine mineral backbone gives depth and structure.

This Pinot Gris is a natural match for spice-driven dishes, where its texture and freshness shine. Try it with:
Chicken and ginger stir fry
Teppanyaki prawns with sesame and soy
Vietnamese vermicelli salad with fresh herbs

Why it matters: The 2024 vintage shows the strength of the King Valley and the people behind it - producing a wine that is layered, vibrant, and distinctly The Buffalo.
